Bendigo U3A member Michael Gallagher, has a great interest and an amazing knowledge of classical music and has very generously agreed to share it with us at this talk.
Michael intends to base his talk around an illustrated synopsis of the four operas of Der Ring des Nibelungen. He will play some musical excerpts, comment on aspects of the work that have captured his interest, discuss some of the controversy surrounding Wagner and the Ring, and briefly detail how he came, late in life, to appreciate this monumental work.
He will distribute a printed handout of libretto excerpts for tracks played and a bibliography listing some recent libretto texts and commentaries. Michael will also make available to interested members additional resources in the form PDF files and an indexed set of audio pronunciation files. Questions and comments from participants will be welcome. There will be a break for refreshments.
